Home/About the Table

The system is designed to treat herniated discs of cervical or lumbar spine, degenerative disc disease,  Sciatic nerve pain or facet syndrome by gentle and segment specific decompression.  SpineMED® has a patented design that dramatically enhances patient comfort as compared to conventional traction devices by the use of nylon harnesses and improved skeletal capture.  The cervical and pelvic piece of SpineMED® system changes the angle to treat specific segments involved. This in turn increases specificity of care and significantly reduces forces required.  When high force is used in traditional tables, contraction of paraspinal musculature causes increase loading of disc and joint, the exact opposite of what is needed.

FAQs

SpineMED® Decompression is a remarkable non-surgical, drug free procedure for the treatment of back and neck pain caused by injured or degenerated spinal discs. It works by targeting and gently relieving the pressure on the damaged segment of the spine, which eases pain and speeds up the body’s natural healing process. Damaged intervertebral discs seldom heal on their own as the discs are constantly under pressure. Decompression, or the reduction of pressure inside the discs, facilitates increased circulation into the spinal discs (transferring fluids, nutrients and oxygen back inside the disc) which promotes the retraction of bulging or herniated discs.

SpineMED® Decompression is designed to help people suffering from disc-related pain. Any back or neck pain caused in whole or in part by a damaged disc may be helped by SpineMED® Decompression*. These conditions include degenerated discs, herniated, protruding or bulging discs, pinched nerves, spinal stenosis, sciatica, facet syndrome and radiculopathy.

The low force requirements associated with SpineMED® limit the contraindications (conditions which make a particular procedure inadvisable) significantly. Primarily, the contraindications for the decompression* procedure are instabilities of the spine such as recent fractures, bilateral pars defects, spondylolisthesis grade 2 or above and gross osteoporosis. Additional contraindications include cancers or tumors of the spine, pregnancy and patients under the age of 15. Post-surgical patients are not contraindicated unless they have surgical hardware implanted in the region of the spine being targeted.

The SpineMED® System is patented technology. The SpineMED® System has eliminated the use of cumbersome nylon harnesses and pulleys. The patented pelvic restraint system provides a secure, comfortable and repeatable capture of the skeletal structure, eliminating the variability and inconvenience of pelvic harnesses. Once the pelvic is captured, the technician can accurately isolate the damaged disc by adjusting the patented pelvic tilting section. Increased specificity combined with a more efficient capture results in lower force requirements than previous technologies. The SpineMED® System’s ability to achieve results using lower distraction forces greatly increases the number of suitable patients, particularly patients with acute pain and older patients. Extensive computerization and hospital grade components make the SpineMED® System the most sophisticated decompression* device on the market.

SpineMED® Decompression*is very comfortable. No one has ever been injured during the SpineMED® procedure. The procedure is so gentle, that many patients fall asleep during the session. The SpineMED® system also has emergency stop switches for both the patient and the operator.

SpineMED® Decompression can help people with back pain after failed spinal surgery, as long as no hardware (pins, screws, rods, etc…) have been implanted in the section of the spine being targeted. Schedule a consultation with your doctor to see if you could be a post-surgical candidate.

Sessions are typically administered 3-5 times per week over a 4-6 week period. The 20-25 sessions are about 30 min in duration. The procedure is performed fully clothed. Each session has a cumulative effect that may significantly reduce pain and improve function as patients’ progress through the SpineMED® procedure.

SpineMED® Decompression* is designed to correct the underlying condition, which can provide a long term solution for some causes of back and neck pain. So long as the patient leads a healthy lifestyle and does not reinjure themselves, the results could be long lasting.

Yes, many patients are able to maintain a normal work schedule, although you will want to limit your work activities if they are physically stressful. Discuss this further with your local SpineMED® therapist.

The cost of each spinal decompression treatment is $125.00. A typical treatment plan may include up to 20 treatments, but again may vary depending on your specific condition of your spine, how long it’s been bothering you and any other underlying conditions you may have. It is important to remember, this is an investment in your back and over all wellbeing. Our priority is to find out what is causing your pain and create a treatment plan with you that provides long term relief. Payment plans are available if needed.

Unfortunately, at this time Alberta Health Care does not cover Spinal Decompression treatments. Private insurance companies may cover a portion of the treatment cost, however, it is recommended that you contact your insurance provider to find out what they will cover as it is not likely listed in their regular schedule of benefits.

Testimonials

Hi my name is Linda Gienow. I would like to give thanks to the Lloydminster Spinal Decompression staff for the relief they have given me.

I have been in pain since December of 2009 following a car accident. The last few years of chronic pain have been unbearable.

I was scheduled for a 10 hour surgery on my back. My MRI said I had fairly severe lumbar disc damage between T11 and L5. The surgery was to consist of instrumental fusion and decompression. This procedure would entail breaking the back, replacing bone, cleaning up disc bulges, and most likely a blood transfusion. My specialist had said that I was one of the most severe cases he and his colleagues had come across.

I am now finishing up with 20 SpineMed treatments and have nothing but praise for the Dr’s and Nurses at Lloydminster Spinal Decompression.

I can happily say I have cancelled my surgery and I have decreased from a 30/10 for pain to a 4/10 for pain.

My experience has been positively awesome. What a wonderful place to have found!

If you would like to know more about my experience, you can contact me on Facebook, just look me up under Linda Gienow (Saskatchewan). I will be more than happy to help.

Once again thanks to the Lloydminster Spinal Decompression staff. I would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Murray for referring me through my son.

Linda Gienow

As a 34 year old mother of one toddler, I had severe lower back, hip and sciatic nerve pain on my left side that left me barely able to function and literally sleepless for months on end. I was at the end of my tolerance level all together after trying pain medication, acupuncture, and massage and physio therapy. An MRI resulted in “a bulging disc”, that “only surgery would fix.” I was scared to death of back surgery. Shortly after these results my family doctor, I heard about the SpineMED® bed.

After my first assessment with Dr. Atkinson at the Lloydminster Spinal Decompression, I was relieved to hear I was a perfect candidate for the Spine Med bed. I started my first 30 minute session a day later. My first few treatments were painful only because lying flat on my back was so very painful because of the “bulging disc” problem. Dr. Atkinson and Dr. Enns monitored my progress very carefully during and between treatments. It took about 20 treatments before I felt like I was getting anywhere, which is rare, compared to most other patients that use the bed, others had results much sooner. But it was about the 20 treatment mark that I started to feel human again. The pain was going away, my body felt like it was healing and I was returning to my normal self again. I could pick up my daughter and hold her once again!!!

I would highly recommend getting an assessment done to see if the Spine Med bed is right for you. The SpineMED® bed saved me from having surgery and gave me my life back. Thank you Dr. Atkinson & Dr. Enns!!
